Bonavista, on Newfoundland's northeastern coast. I took these photographs while watching whales breach the Atlantic and wandering among the weathered fishing sheds, and I couldn't help but feel the deep connection between the land, sea, and community. Every photo tells a story of resilience and timeless beauty.
One of my favourite things about Newfoundland is the rich culture and history, unlike any other province. From the historic fish sheds lining the coasts, to the twisting roads of saltbox houses in St. John's battery neighbourhood, to the picturesque and deeply peaceful outport communities, culture followed me everywhere I went while exploring the island.
And not only a rich culture soaked in Canadian, Irish, and Mi'kmaq history (from the music to the food and fine art), but locals fiercely proud of where they come from.
